An Elder Oblex has created a cult and corrupted a nearby forest. The oblex deceives its followers to gain as much knowledge as possible before consuming them in secret. Many tree folk in the forest have also been mind controlled by the oblex to guard its throne and worship site. If you look closely you can see small metal tubes in the ground that the oblex can slide down into to move around without being seen and pop out again to attack unsuspecting adventurers.
